Below is the translation of my Guru Prasad’s article which explained simply yet precisely about Sadhana, Atmajnana, Dukkha, Moksha, Jnana and Vijnana. Every Thursday is the day of Guru. My deepest gratitdue to my Guru for his teachings.

What is Knowledge in Yoga:

.

The main premise of Yoga is to bring the Yogi to a steady state of self-understanding called Atmajnana. This understanding releases the Yogi from all conditional self-perceptions. This release is understood as Moksha.

.

Moksha is possible only by going beyond the unsteady perceptions of the world and the self. This is when one realizes that the real experiencer is beyond unsteady mental fluctuations.

.

Until steadiness of self-understanding is reached our participation in the world keeps manifesting suffering (Dukkha).

.

For the journey from suffering to total freedom three variables need to be understood,

a) the self

b) the world, and

c) the nature of their interaction.

.

The understanding and experiencing of these three happens at two levels.

.

1) Jnana – Theoretical understanding of self, world and its interaction through the study of Shastra (scriptural philosophies).

.

2) Vijnana – Experiential realisation of self, world and its interactions through realization of the true nature of self.

.

The bridge between jnana and Vijnana is the Yoga Sadhana, our Yoga practice.
